Welcome to Linton Chess Club

Linton is a thriving club south of Cambridge, serving South Cambridgeshire and the Saffron Walden and Haverhill areas of Essex and Suffolk.  We have excellent modern premises with two rooms, one for matches and another for friendlies, analysis and refreshments.

The club typically has around eight teams in Bury Area Chess League competitions, catering for all standards of player.  We also play in other local tournaments, including the East Anglian Club Championship, which we have won four times in recent years.  In partnership with local colleges we run the Anglian Chess Academy for talented junior chess players.  A particular feature of our club is an enthusiastic junior section, with a number of players in recent England junior squads and the current British Under 16 champion.

As well as League matches Linton runs a club championship during the main season (September to May) with  varied summer progamme from May to August.  Our members also make up almost half of the Cambridgeshire County team, winning the Minor Counties’ Championship in 2023.

You’d be sure of a friendly welcome and opportunities to play and improve whatever your standard if you’d like to come to the club.

We meet at 7.30 pm each Tuesday apart from a brief break at the height of summer.
