I can report on another successful season, albeit not reaching the heights of last season where we won most events we entered, including the East Anglian Team Championship, the first division of the Bury Area Chess League, the Roger Goldsmith tournament and the Fenland Trophy. This year we mainly came second.
In the Bury League the Lions and the Llamas came first and second in division 2, the winning Lions team consisting of five junior players, which augers well for the future. Linton Lions are promoted, taking the place of Linton Llamas, relegated despite their best efforts. In the third division both the Lemurs and Langurs won through to the top group but narrowly lost out to Stowmarket. And in the first division of the Roger Goldsmith rating-limited tournament the Linton
Larks finished ……….second.
Our six years of success in the Patrick Ribbands Team Championships also came to an end this year, though our four teams finished second and third in the Open, and second in both the U1900 and U1600 tournaments.
The highlight of the season has undoubtedly been the achievement of our junior players, both in team successes and individual championships, which are reported more fully in the 2005/06 review of the Chess Academy.
